Edward Lear: A Brief Biography

Edward Lear was born in London, England, in 1812. He was the youngest of 21 children. Lear's father was a stockbroker, and his mother was a writer. Lear's childhood was unhappy. He was often bullied by his siblings, and he was not close to his parents.

Despite his unhappy childhood, Lear was a talented artist and writer. He began drawing at an early age, and he published his first book of poems when he was just 19 years old.

In 1837, Lear traveled to Italy, where he spent the rest of his life. He continued to write and illustrate poems, and he also became a successful landscape painter.
